I needed a chair for 'bedroom three' that was evident and looking around the house it was also evident that all chairs already had places that they they need to be...I tend to be quite lucky generally in life and normally if I need something I find it...I was at an event on Saturday night and I spotted the following chair dumped by the bins and looking sad
Um... I thought, I had a good look at it and it seemed solid although not the most beautiful chair in the world it did have some lovely turning on the top of the front legs...And off I went to dance...On Sunday afternoon...note afternoon, morning was for recovery :-) I wandered back up the salle de fetes to pick up my car which had insisted on spending the night there. Chair still there but not for long... it really is a perfectly serviceable chair...I ripped of the tattered seat covering and popped it in the bins and then popped my new chair in my car...
Back home i started trying to strip off the old varnish using paint stripper that I had hanging around...Did you know that paint stripper 'goes off?' me neither...well it does, it becomes very liquid and seems like it has lost all of it's va va voom stripping ability...I thought I would have to give up and 'do' a painted chair but I persevered and eventually it worked...paint stripping is not my favourite thing there is a vast amount of time that is messy and I cannot believe it will ever look ok...
Having stripped off the old varnish it was time to remove the old staples and nails from the base of the chair...I am aware that logically I should probably do that before stripping ...but I am an illogical sort of being and it works for me this way...So yesterday with hammer pliers and screwdriver I fought the battle...holes in hands three..staples remaining none...Now the fun can start, giving the chair love the chair and hopefully making it beautiful...
